Overview

BuyWatch™ helps users track product prices, view price history, and compare product prices across supported retailers. This Privacy Policy applies to the BuyWatch app, website, and related services. It explains what information we collect, how we collect and use it, when we may share it, and how you can contact us about your information.

Information we collect

We may collect information you provide directly, such as your email address, feedback, and support requests.

We may also collect app usage information, app version and build number, device model, platform, operating system version, internal analytics events, subscription status, account entitlements, and diagnostic or technical information needed to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve BuyWatch.

How we collect information

We collect information directly from you when you create or use an account, change app settings, contact support, or report an issue. We also collect some technical and usage information automatically when you use BuyWatch.

We may receive limited information from service providers, including Apple, about subscriptions, transactions, entitlements, notifications, and the operation of the app. We may also obtain publicly available product and retailer information from websites when providing the features you request.

Product and price tracking data

When you add products to your BuyWatch watchlist, we store details such as the product URL, retailer, product title, product image, current price, previous prices, availability, and related price-checking information.

BuyWatch uses this information to provide price tracking, price history, comparison features, alerts, and related app functionality.

Analytics

We may collect internal analytics information to understand how BuyWatch is used, improve app performance, and fix issues. Analytics may include search terms, screen views, feature usage, app version, device model, operating system version, and general usage events. We do not use this information for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.

Notifications

If you enable notifications, BuyWatch may send you notifications about tracked products, price changes, alerts, or service updates. You can manage notification preferences in the app and notification permissions through your device settings.

Subscriptions

BuyWatch may offer paid subscription features. Subscription purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We may store subscription status and related entitlement information so the app can provide the correct account features. BuyWatch does not receive or store your complete payment card details.

AI-assisted support requests

When you contact support or report an issue, we collect the information you provide and may associate it with relevant product, account, app, and diagnostic information so we can investigate and respond.

With your permission, BuyWatch may share the minimum information reasonably needed from a support request with OpenAI, a third-party artificial intelligence service provider. This information may include your support message, relevant product or retailer information, technical details, and limited account identifiers. We use this service to classify and analyse requests and to prepare or generate support responses. A response may be generated or assisted by artificial intelligence.

Please do not include passwords, payment card information, health information, government identifiers, or other sensitive personal information in a support request. If an AI-assisted response does not resolve your issue, you may request human review by contacting support@buywatch.app.

How we use information

We use collected information to:

Provide, operate, secure, and improve BuyWatch features.
Create and manage user accounts.
Manage subscriptions and account entitlements.
Send notifications where enabled.
Track product prices, availability, and price history.
Provide product search and comparison features.
Respond to feedback, support requests, and reported issues.
Monitor app reliability, security, performance, and misuse.
Comply with applicable laws and enforce our Terms of Use.

When we share information

We may share information with service providers that help us operate BuyWatch, including providers of cloud hosting, database and account services, notifications, subscription processing, product-page retrieval, technical monitoring, communications, and AI-assisted support. We provide these service providers only with information reasonably necessary to perform their services.

We may also disclose information where required or authorised by law, to respond to lawful requests, to protect the rights, safety, and security of BuyWatch or others, or to investigate fraud, misuse, or security incidents.

We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own advertising or marketing purposes.

Data hosting and overseas processing

BuyWatch uses cloud infrastructure for user accounts, data storage, notifications, and related services required to operate the app. Primary BuyWatch account, watchlist, and price-tracking data is hosted in data centres located in Australia.

Some service providers may process limited information outside Australia. In particular, information provided for AI-assisted support may be processed by OpenAI in the United States or other locations where it or its service providers operate. Overseas recipients may be subject to different privacy laws. We take reasonable steps to select and use service providers that maintain appropriate privacy and security protections.

Data security

We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure. However, no electronic transmission or storage method is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data retention

We keep information for as long as reasonably needed to provide BuyWatch, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, improve and secure the service, and maintain necessary business records. Some product and price history information may be retained to support price tracking and historical price features.

When information is no longer reasonably required, we take reasonable steps to delete it or make it anonymous, subject to legal, security, backup, fraud-prevention, and operational requirements.

Accessing and correcting your information

You may view or update some account information through the app. You may also ask to access or correct personal information we hold about you by contacting support@buywatch.app. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. In some circumstances, applicable law may allow us to refuse access or correction, in which case we will explain the reason where required.

Account deletion

You may delete your account via the BuyWatch tab in the app. When an account is deleted, your personal information will be deleted or made anonymous where reasonably possible, unless we need to retain certain information for legal, security, backup, fraud-prevention, or operational reasons.

Privacy questions and complaints

If you have a question or complaint about how BuyWatch handles personal information, contact us at support@buywatch.app and provide enough detail for us to investigate. We will review your concern and respond within a reasonable period.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may be entitled to contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Children's privacy

BuyWatch is intended for general audiences and is not directed specifically at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without appropriate permission. If you believe a child has provided personal information to BuyWatch without appropriate permission, please contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to BuyWatch, our information-handling practices, or applicable requirements. If we make changes, we will update the date shown at the top of this page. Where a change is material, we may also provide notice in the app or by another appropriate method.
